V8 Supercars - The V8 Supercars are now making their way back from NZ. Round 3 was run over the weekend, and the Toll HSVs were again the stand-out of the field. But Garth Tander wasn't too happy after the final race was shortened to fit in with Channel 7's AFL commitments.

You'll find video of race 1 up at YouTube

WRC - Stephane Prevot teams up with Chris Atkinson for the rest of the season. Ford to go on the attack before the tarmac events, and Petter Solberg is off to recce Rally Jordan next month.

Aussies abroad - Will Power had a disappointing run at Houston, giving up the championship lead to Sebastien Bourdais. Meanwhile, Marcus Ambrose is fighting on in NASCAR, even though he took Juan Pablo Montoya out of the O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Music this week from:

The Shins - Australia and Phantom Limb. To play music for a long time, you have to surprise the people that love you – while also surprising yourself. Enter 'Wincing the Night Away'.

Recorded over time in James Mercer’s basement studio, Phil Ek’s Seattle digs, and in Oregon City with veteran producer Joe Chiccarelli (Beck, U2) – 'Wincing the Night Away' is a whole new animal. It is the sound of a band growing up and out.

The Album Leaf - Always for You. I’ve always felt that the music I make is perfect for that kind of (Icelandic) setting, explains Jimmy LaValle. Inside Sundlaugin (the name of the studio means “swimming pool” in Icelandic), LaValle was able to craft an album that ventures into new, at times beat-intensive, territory. Chillingly delicate and more pop-based than ever before, In a Safe Place masterfully negotiates the spaces between minimal electronic music and melancholy instrumental neo-rock.

Thanks Sub-Pop Records for providing tracks from The Shins and The Album Leaf.

Alex Smart - Talk. We played Alex Smart almost a year ago. This is another track from her EP, 'This is Me', and is available from her web site, or as individual track downloads from amplifier.co.nz.

Listen to more of here tunes at MySpace.

Bathurst 12 Hour Race - This Easter saw the return of the Bathurst 12 Hour Production Race, an addition to the Bathurst International Motor Festival. The race was a fight between the Holt/Baird/Morris BMW 335i and the Impreza WRX STI of Atkinson/Crocker/Herridge. All the results are up at the BIMF web site.

Race To The Sky - The annual Race To The Sky was held last weekend in the Cardrona Valley on New Zealands south island. And although Suzuki World Rally Team boss Nobuhiro 'Monster' Tajima didn't break the elusive eight minute barrier, he still claimed the win over rival Kenneth Eriksson.

A1GP - The A1GPs were in Shanghai last weekend for the 10th round of the season. And although he didn't win either race, Nico Hulkenberg did enough to secure the title for 2006-2007.

All the music this week is from Dropkicks brand new CD 'Turning Circles'. The CD is released later this week, and you can purchase the album from their web site.

Macneall and Atkinson Split

I didn't see this one coming. Glenn Macneall, Chris Atkinson's co-driver, has announced he's leaving the Subaru World Rally Team, with immediate effect.

An obvious choice would be Chris' brother Ben, who was his original co-driver, but decided not to step-up to the WRC in 2004. But will the team look to install a more experienced co-driver, Kaj Lindstrom for example? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

The full story is up at the Subaru World Rally Team web site.

WRC - Another rally where it's an arm wrestle between Sebastien Loeb and Marcus Gronholm. But in this case, it's Seb that comes out on top. For for the final podium, Mikko Hirvonen and Petter Solberg put on a great fight all rally.

But the real controversy came at the end of the event, the Fords of Gronholm, Hirvonen, Jari-Matti Latvala, Henning Solberg, Matthew Wilson, and Gareth McHale all penalised 5 minutes for side-window glass that was 0.5mm too thin. I'm sure we're going to hear more about this.

Music this week from:

remainameless - Born in the 80s. Formed in March 2003, Reuben, bassist Krazy Rob and drummer Rob have been regularly playing the Toronto indie scene. This track is off their second full length album "Saving the Planet One Song at a Time".

Tiger Stripes - Halloween. Kicking us off this week is the Adelaide-based band, Tiger Stripes. The boys are currently working on an EP for release later this year, but in the meantime you can hear more of their tracks up at MySpace.

LisaMona - Hollow Men. All the way from Portugal, Jorge Nuno and Miguel C formed the band in 2004. This track is off there new CD 'Above the Sky, Below the Sea', which you can purchase from Independent Records. Have a look at their web site, which includes videos and previews of all the tracks off the album.

Ophelia Hope - Next to You. Hot off the mastering press from the Norwegian trio. The band formed in 2003, the combined efforts of local girl Ingrid on vocals, and two foreign ring-ins, Italian Davide on bass, and Aussie Paul on guitars and keyboards.

ARC - The opening round of the Australian Rally Championship from Queensland, and Simon Evans takes off where he finished last year. A clean-sweep of the round, and just too fast for the opposition. Eli Evans, Dean Herridge, Brenden Reeves, and Steven Shepheard provide some privateer competition. And three Super 2000 cars grab plenty of attention; Neal Bates in the S2000 Corolla, and the Pirtek pair of Michael Guest and Darren Windus.

Music this week from:

Awkward Silence - This Is Not The End. "Eclectic and genre bending, mixing driving disco beats with intricate guitar stylings from an imaginary 70's iconic rock band that has somehow turned up in Tewantin". Buy their EP from JB Hi-Fi.

Redcar - Back To The Start. Another track from Redcar's brand new album, 'Can't be Stopped'. (Thanks Phyllis Records). Download "Back To The Start"

Saving Savanah - Chasing Amy. A four-piece rock outfit that formed just over a year ago in Adelaide. This track is available for download from JJJ-Unearthed.

If you like the song, email the artist and let them know. Or, better still, buy a CD!
